If You Call Yourself 'Neutral' But Speaks Against Bawumia, You Are Our Enemy- P.K. Sarpong Warns

A vocal supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, P.K. Sarpong, has issued a stern warning to journalists and media personalities who claim neutrality but criticize the NPP flagbearer.

In a strongly worded statement, Sarpong declared that such individuals would be treated as enemies of the party.

“If you label yourself as a ‘neutral’ media person but talks shit about our flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, you are our enemy, and we shall treat you as such. Take this as a notice we’re serving you people!” he wrote.

Sarpong, known for his active support of the NPP and frequent commentary on social media in favor of Dr. Bawumia, did not specify particular media outlets or individuals in the statement.

His remarks appear to target perceived bias among journalists who present themselves as impartial while leveling criticism at the former Vice President, who served as the NPP's presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

The statement has sparked discussions on social media platforms, with some viewing it as a robust defense of Bawumia amid ongoing political discourse in Ghana, while others may see it as an attempt to intimidate independent journalism.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, an economist and former Vice President under President Nana Akufo-Addo, remains a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics.

Following the NPP's performance in recent elections, debates continue within political circles and the media about the party's direction and leadership.

P.K. Sarpong has previously expressed strong loyalty to the NPP, often using platforms like Facebook to share his views on national issues and defend party figures.

This latest warning comes at a time when media neutrality and political accountability remain hot topics in Ghana's vibrant democratic space. Media practitioners and civil society groups have often emphasized the importance of press freedom and balanced reporting in holding public figures accountable.

As of now, there has been no official response from the NPP leadership or Dr. Bawumia’s camp regarding Sarpong’s remarks.

The statement underscores the heightened sensitivities within Ghana's political landscape as parties and supporters prepare for future electoral battles.

Observers will be watching how such rhetoric influences media coverage and public discourse in the coming months.
