Kwesi Pratt Dismisses NPP Critics: They Are Lazy And Have No Right To Dictate My Conduct

Veteran Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has firmly rejected claims that his work is aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing such accusations from New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicators as baseless and born out of intellectual laziness.

In a recent interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, Pratt expressed frustration with political commentators who label anyone critical of the government as a member of the opposition. He argued that this binary way of thinking is a simplistic attempt to silence dissent.

“Some of these communicators from NPP are simply lazy. They are extremely lazy and pedestrian,” Pratt stated.

He explained that their assumption of moral superiority leads them to brand anyone who disagrees with them as belonging to “the ultimate devil,” the NDC. Pratt emphasized that the world does not operate on such a narrow spectrum.

The outspoken journalist defended his right to independent thought by highlighting his extensive history of holding power accountable.

He noted that the struggles he endured while criticizing the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and the NDC far outweigh what most of his current critics have experienced.

“They have no right, no authority to be telling me how I think and how I behave,” he asserted, adding that none of them have “earned the right” to dictate his actions.

Pratt reiterated that his commentary is driven solely by his personal convictions, not by party loyalty or external pressure.

He clarified that while he criticizes the government when necessary, he does so on his own terms. “I’m not going to criticize the government because some NPP guy wants me to. To hell. Who are they?” he remarked, emphasizing his independence.

Reflecting on his career, Pratt recalled past labels to illustrate how unconcerned he is with public perception.

He shared an amusing anecdote from the PNDC era when officials, puzzled by his international connections, speculated that he was a CIA agent. He dismissed this with a laugh, stating that such labels do not stick.

Concluding his remarks, Pratt made it clear that he remains unmoved by attempts to pigeonhole him politically.

He maintains that his decades-long track record of independent journalism speaks for itself, and he will continue to critique government actions based on his own principles, regardless of the political labels thrown his way.
