Mahama Builds Biggest Dambai Bridge And Tamale Heart Hospital In Less Than 2 Years - Aban Papa Aba

Ghana has not seen this kind of speed before. In less than 2 years in office, President John Dramani Mahama is building two projects many people thought would take 10 years - the biggest bridge over water in Ghana's history at Dambai, and a first-class heart hospital in Tamale.

This is not promise. Work is already happening on the ground.

1. The 1.5km Dambai Bridge - The Biggest Ever

For years, people crossing from Dambai to Dodoikope have suffered on the Oti River. No bridge. Just a slow pontoon that breaks down.

Mahama has changed that story.

His government is now building the 1.5-kilometre Dambai Bridge over the Oti River, with 6.8 kilometres of approach roads linking Dambai and Dodoikope on the Eastern Corridor.

It is one of the two longest bridges over water in Ghana's history, together with the 3.6km Afram Bridge.

It is part of Mahama's $10 Billion Big Push Infrastructure Agenda. As of June 2026, the project was already 6% complete, with foundation works and a temporary bridge under construction, slightly ahead of schedule.

When finished, it will open up the whole Oti Region for business, farming and travel.

President Mahama himself said during his Thank You Tour in Dambai: "I can assure you that this bridge will commence this year"- and he has delivered.

2. Tamale Cardio Centre - No More Travelling to Accra for Heart Treatment

This one will save lives.

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, President Mahama inspected the new Cardio Centre at Tamale Teaching Hospital.

At first, the plan was to just bring a small heart machine (CATLAB) to Accra and Kumasi.

Mahama said Tamale must also be included for balance. But when the machine arrived, they realised Tamale needed a full hospital to support it.

So Mahama upgraded it. He ordered a full-fledged Cardio Centre with ICU, wards, consulting rooms, pharmacies and oxygen plant.

The project is under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares.

Contractors say it is on course for completion by end of August 2026, and President Mahama says it can be operational by next year once equipment is installed.

For the first time, people in the whole Northern Ghana will not have to travel to Accra or Kumasi for heart surgery. The treatment will be right in Tamale.

During the inspection, Mahama also directed that a cancer treatment centre should be built in Tamale next.

What It Means

One bridge to connect the country. One hospital to save the heart of the north. Both started and moving fast under one man, in less than 2 years.

Roads, health, jobs - everything is moving.

Aban papa aba indeed.
