Sompa FM in Kumasi recently received back GHS 15,000 from a young man who admitted to swindling the money from a woman.
The man said he returned the cash after a strange spirit began haunting him.
The suspect explained his method of fraud. He said he would watch people at mobile money centers and write down the phone numbers of those who withdrew large sums.
Later, he would call these customers and trick them into sending him money.
In this case, he told a woman that her items were ready to be picked up. Trusting him, the woman transferred GHS 15,000.
After withdrawing the money, the man disappeared and stopped answering her calls.
However, the man’s life changed when he started seeing a spirit in his dreams. The spirit demanded that he return the money to the woman, whom he called his “mother.”
He also said he was physically whipped by the spirit. The man tried to call the woman several times but she kept cutting the calls.
Not knowing what else to do, he came to Sompa FM to ask for help in finding her so he could return the money.
This unusual case shows how some people who commit fraud sometimes feel guilty or scared after their actions.
The young man’s decision to return the money is rare, especially after such a large amount was involved.
The management of Sompa FM said they are helping to trace the woman so the money can be returned to her.
They also warned people to be careful when sending money to strangers, especially after receiving unexpected calls.
Mobile money fraud remains a big problem in many parts of Ghana. Scammers use different tricks to fool people, including pretending to sell goods or services.
Authorities advise everyone to verify the identity of callers and to never share personal details or PINs.
