The Ghana Police Service has named the police officer accused of killing his girlfriend and another man in a shocking incident that took place in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.
officer, Corporal Kofi Adjei, who serves at the Obuasi Central Police Station, was arrested last week following the shooting that left two people dead.
The victims have been identified as Grace Boateng, Adjei’s girlfriend, and Samuel Ofori, a local trader.
Th happened at a small bar in the Tepa area of Obuasi, a place reportedly owned by Grace Boateng.
Police say the shooting was related to a love dispute involving the two victims and the suspect.
According to the police, Corporal Adjei was taken into custody immediately after the incident on June 25, 2025. He is currently being held as investigations continue.
Detective Inspector Nana Asante, who is leading the case, told the press that there is a request to keep Corporal Adjei in police custody for 14 more days.
This is to allow the investigators time to complete vital steps such as post-mortem examinations, collecting witness statements, and conducting ballistic tests on the gun used.
Inspector Asante said, “Releasing the suspect now could affect the investigation. There is also concern that he might try to run away if given bail.”
The suspect’s lawyer, Mr. Yaw Amoah, however, opposed the extension of detention. He argued that his client is not a flight risk because the shooting happened close to his home and that the police had enough evidence to let him out on bail.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Comfort Boateng, ruled that Corporal Adjei should remain in police custody until July 2, when the court will decide whether to grant bail or continue detention.
The police have asked the public to stay calm while the case is ongoing. They also urged anyone with more information about the incident to come forward and help with the investigation.
