A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Nyamah, has appealed to supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to exercise restraint in their dealings with Kennedy Agyapong as the party looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.
Nyamah explained that unity will be crucial if the NPP is to reclaim power, and any form of internal division could weaken the party’s chances.
According to him, Kennedy Agyapong remains a strong and influential figure in Ghanaian politics, and his role in the party’s future cannot be overlooked.
In his commentary on the party’s prospects, Nyamah cautioned against using harsh words or sidelining Agyapong’s loyal supporters.
He stressed that fair treatment of all contenders would ensure peace within the NPP and help build the momentum needed to face the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next election.
“The party can only remain strong if everyone feels respected. If Ken believes he has been treated fairly, his followers will rally behind the candidate who emerges,” Nyamah said.
He also used the opportunity to commend other party leaders. He particularly highlighted Bryan Acheampong, describing him as a youthful, dynamic, and experienced politician who could one day lead the NPP.
However, he urged him and other ambitious figures to give Dr. Bawumia the needed support at this time.
Nyamah further stressed that the NPP’s road to victory will not be based on history alone but on how effectively the party manages its internal relationships.
He noted that ignoring the importance of balance and fairness could hand the opposition an easy win.
“Our comeback is not automatic. It depends on how well we manage our differences. If we allow factions to grow hostile, the NDC will benefit from our weakness,” he warned.
While openly declaring his support for Bawumia, Nyamah emphasized that winning in 2028 must be a collective effort.
He called on the party to blend loyalty with fairness, ensuring that even those who step aside for the flagbearer feel valued.
His remarks come at a time when discussions on the NPP’s leadership are dominating political conversations, with members of the party weighing the roles of key figures like Bawumia, Agyapong, and others in shaping the future of Ghana’s political landscape.
