Police officers in Kasoa have arrested a young man suspected of being involved in a violent robbery incident reported in the early hours of Saturday.
The arrest followed a swift response from the Kasoa Divisional Police Command after concerned residents tipped them off.
According to officials, the incident happened around 5:00 a.m. when a victim was attacked and robbed by armed assailants.
The suspects reportedly used violence during the act, leaving the victim shaken. The matter was quickly reported to the police, who immediately launched an operation in one of the nearby communities.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police stormed a house believed to be the hideout of the suspect. During a search of the premises, officers recovered a mobile phone suspected to have been stolen from the victim during the robbery.
In addition, they found several rolls of dried leaves believed to be cannabis, raising further concerns about the suspect’s activities.
The 25-year-old man was arrested on the spot and taken into custody. Police say he will be processed for court once investigations are complete.
A police spokesperson commended residents of Kasoa for their timely cooperation, which made the arrest possible.
“The community’s support played a crucial role in this operation. We continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods,” the spokesperson noted.
This latest arrest adds to ongoing police efforts to clamp down on crime in Kasoa and surrounding areas.
Recently, there have been growing concerns about the rise in violent robberies, with both motorists and traders falling victim. Authorities have since increased patrols in hotspots and urged residents to remain vigilant.
Community members who spoke to the media welcomed the arrest but also called for stronger measures to tackle crime.
