Businessman in Kumasi Narrowly Escapes Death After Armed Robbery Attack

Kumasi, Ghana – Panic gripped residents of Tafo in Kumasi after a cereal trader was attacked and shot by armed robbers on Sunday evening.

According to reports, the victim, identified as Yaw Agyeman, survived the harrowing ordeal and is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when Agyeman closed his cereal shop and boarded a motorbike taxi for the short trip home.

Unknown to him, three armed men who had been monitoring his movements earlier trailed him to the entrance of his house.

Recounting the incident, Agyeman said the gang confronted him without warning.

“I suddenly heard a gunshot and realized blood was running down my arm. They grabbed the little cash I had and even took my house keys before escaping on a motorbike,” he narrated from his hospital bed.

The attackers fled after shooting him in the shoulder, leaving him in severe pain. Fortunately, a passerby rushed him to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

The attack created fear across the Tafo community, forcing many traders and shopkeepers to shut down their businesses earlier than usual. Residents described the incident as shocking, stressing that the area has become a target for criminal gangs.

The Tafo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Daniel Ofori, confirmed the robbery and assured the public that investigations were ongoing.

“We are pursuing the suspects and will ensure they are brought to justice. We urge community members to share any information that can assist us,” he told journalists.

Traders and residents alike are calling for increased police patrols, improved street lighting, and stronger community vigilance to deter criminals.

Neighbors of the victim expressed relief that Agyeman survived the attack, describing him as a hardworking man well known in the market.
