Residents of Abura, a community in Cape Coast, were thrown into shock on Saturday evening after the lifeless body of a 40-year-old man was discovered in his rented room.
According to eyewitnesses, loud distress sounds were heard from the man’s room around 5:00 pm.
Some neighbours, who grew concerned, tried calling out to him but received no response. When they peeped through a gap in the door, they reportedly saw him lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Alarmed by the scene, the neighbours quickly forced the door open. Inside, they found the man battling for his life with deep stab wounds to his stomach. Sadly, he passed away shortly after.
The deceased, who worked as a staff member at a local private school in Cape Coast, had been living alone in the area for about two years. Neighbours described him as a quiet and kind person who kept to himself.
“He never gave us any reason to worry. He was always respectful, but he didn’t talk much about his personal life. None of us expected something like this to happen,” said a neighbour who identified himself only as Kojo.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted. Their preliminary report indicated that a blood-stained knife was found in the man’s pocket.
Investigators added that the door had been locked from the inside, which has raised suspicions of suicide, though the exact cause of death has not been confirmed.
Cape Coast District Police Commander, Superintendent Adwoa Nyarko, confirmed the incident. She noted that no note or written message was found in the room, leaving the motive unclear.
“He was found with serious injuries and a knife in his pocket, but we cannot conclude it was self-inflicted until an autopsy is conducted. Investigations are ongoing to determine what really happened,” she said.
The body was later conveyed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Community members, still shaken by the discovery, have expressed sadness and confusion. Many say the deceased showed no visible signs of emotional distress prior to the incident.
“He was always calm. If something was troubling him, he never showed it. We are truly shocked by this,” another resident added.
Police have assured the public that the matter is under thorough investigation.
